About the Division
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol’s goal is to protect and maintain North Carolina’s high quality of life and prevent crime. The department is responsible for enhancing overall community safety and safeguarding the rights of individuals. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is organized into specialized units and teams, staffed by both full-time, and reserve troopers to manage calls for service and facilitate problem-solving throughout the community.
Membership Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Can only apply through agency transfer
- Must be in good standing within the server
- Advanced Knowledge of: Traffic stops, Pursuit procedures, Radio communication etiquette

While our Troopers have statewide authority, our primary focus is the enforcement of traffic laws and safety on all state highways, interstates, and public roads. We specialize in high-speed pursuit management, accident investigation, and ensuring the flow of commerce remains uninterrupted. While we may assist WPD or NHCSO during major incidents, our "home" is the asphalt.

R.R.T (Rapid Response Team): Our tactical unit for high-risk warrants and barricaded suspects.
Cardinal Air Support Team: Providing aerial surveillance and pursuit tracking.
M.C.E (Motor Carrier Enforcement): Focusing on weight stations and trucking violations.
C.I.U (Criminal Interdiction Unit): Highway interdiction unit focused on detecting and stopping criminal activity during traffic stops.
Canine Division: K-9 teams trained in narcotics detection and interdiction on North Carolina highways.
